The giants are couples white and black, they are carried on the black of a man who dances close to all the people. They have a wooden head with long hanging arms and colorful adresses. The giants dance with marimba they represent the four cardinal points. |

Handcarved and handpainted nawal
This handcarved and handpainted puppet was inspired by the traditional and modern masks used by the Maya of Guatemala and Mexico in their social and religious dance ceremonies. While dancing in costume with a Nawal mask one can magically transform into one's animal spirit. Each day has it's own Nawal which is assigned to those born on that particular day. |
